Classroom language is the kind of language necessary to communicate and survive in the classroom without having to use the student’s mother tongue. Classroom language is a collection of phrases used for communication among teacher and students. While emphasis is usually placed primarily on the target language. Classroom language can be invaluable way of promoting English as real communication, student involvement in the lesson, and active language learning skills. Based on the decree of Minister of National Education number 16 in 2007 about the teachers’ four competence, it is stated that one of teacher’s competences in pedagogical competence is the ability of the teachers to communicate effectively, politely, sympathetically and in a friendly way to their students. In doing so, teachers are expected to be able to be use appropriate language to their students.
The goal of the classroom language should not be simply that the class learn English in order to communicate, but they communicate in order to develop their own learning. The activities in the classroom should be seen as generating, rather than the language dictating different activities. In other words, the language should derive naturally from doing the activities. Different learners will process information and react to it in different ways. This means recognizing that learners have different styles and ways of learning which become apparent when they start to learn a foreign language.
